July Program and Meeting

posted Jul 4, 2019, 10:46 AM by Sportsmans Acres

July 8 Program and Meeting 7:00 PM
Meeting and Program at Sportsman’s Acres with a short business meeting and discussion of upcoming activities and projects.

The program for the evening will be Larry George and Mike Johnson talking about the Kansas High School Clays Trap League and their spring season and state tournament.
This is the 4th year of the program and it has grown to over 70 schools with over 1800 student participants across the state this year.

This program partners local volunteers, ranges, sponsors, and schools to provide safe, fun, and competitive shooting sports alternatives for Kansas kids.   GCF&GA has sponsored and coached the Chapman Schools team for the last 2 years, which has developed some top shooters in the state. Targets are shot each week during the spring league and scores are posted to the League website for virtual competition with schools that have similar team size.
No travel to other schools or ranges is required until the state tournament which is held at the KTA trap park near Wichita.  The state tournament has grown to 2 days, with over 600 kids competing on the 1st day.  This should be an interesting and informative program.
Come on out and bring your friends!!

May Monthly Meeting
will start at 7:00 pm on Monday 13 May at Sportsman's Acres with a short business meeting and announcements of
upcoming events.

We have a lot going on in the next few months and volunteers are needed to come to the meeting to find out where
you can help. The program for the evening will be MikeHouck, Threatened and Endangered Species Biologist at Ft.
Riley, who will bring us up to date on the status of the Greater Prairie Chicken on the Fort property.
Ft. Riley has extensively monitored these birds, has harvest data since the 1970s, elk survey data from the 1980s, and has conducted in-depth monitoring projects in 2005 and one in progress this year. He will also discuss other game species such as elk, deer, quail, and turkey and their management plans for these species as well as giving an update on

Ft. Riley's web-based outdoor recreation site(fortrileyisportsman.net). Mike has been out to talk with us
before and is always full of good info. If you have questions about wildlife management at the Post come to the meeting and get them answered!

April Annual Highway Cleanup and Program Open to the Public

posted Apr 3, 2019, 4:05 PM by Sportsmans Acres   [ updated Apr 3, 2019, 4:42 PM ]

The April Member Meeting will start at 6:00 pm on Monday 8 April, with our semi-annual highway, clean up. For many years GCF&GA has cleaned up 2 miles of K -244 plus the K-244 Spur. Were always short on people participating in this so we havent been able to do a thorough clean-up as we should. So if youre a member or not and would like to help with an easy project come on out. It is great exercise and makes the roads prettier!!! We have plenty of blue bags and orange vests and with lots of help, the task should only take 30-40 minutes.

There will be a light supper served after everyone comes back from the pick-up and the meeting will start at 7:00 pm. The program for the evening will be Tyson Seirer, Director of Field Operations at Ringneck Ranch near Tipton, Kansas talking about Long Range Shooting”. Tyson helps operate the Ranchs newly developed ranges which feature targets from 100 to 1300 yards. They also offer an Extreme Long Range experience with target distances out to 2000 yards. Their ranges offer a challenging mix of distance and targets and there are several formal competitions scheduled for 2019. Long Range Shooting training classes are also available. Tyson will talk about the range setup, long-range guns, and other equipment, and procedures for hitting targets in the next

county. This should be a very informative program about a currently popular shooting sport. Come on out and bring your friends!!
