April Annual Highway Cleanup and Program Open to the Public

posted Apr 3, 2019, 4:05 PM by Sportsmans Acres   [ updated Apr 3, 2019, 4:42 PM ]

The April Member Meeting will start at 6:00 pm on Monday 8 April, with our semi-annual highway, clean up. For many years GCF&GA has cleaned up 2 miles of K -244 plus the K-244 Spur. Were always short on people participating in this so we havent been able to do a thorough clean-up as we should. So if youre a member or not and would like to help with an easy project come on out. It is great exercise and makes the roads prettier!!! We have plenty of blue bags and orange vests and with lots of help, the task should only take 30-40 minutes.

There will be a light supper served after everyone comes back from the pick-up and the meeting will start at 7:00 pm. The program for the evening will be Tyson Seirer, Director of Field Operations at Ringneck Ranch near Tipton, Kansas talking about Long Range Shooting”. Tyson helps operate the Ranchs newly developed ranges which feature targets from 100 to 1300 yards. They also offer an Extreme Long Range experience with target distances out to 2000 yards. Their ranges offer a challenging mix of distance and targets and there are several formal competitions scheduled for 2019. Long Range Shooting training classes are also available. Tyson will talk about the range setup, long-range guns, and other equipment, and procedures for hitting targets in the next

county. This should be a very informative program about a currently popular shooting sport. Come on out and bring your friends!!

This will be our annual Wild Game Feed and eating will start at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 11 Feb at Sportsman's Acres.
Members and guests should bring their favorite wild game dish or other meat dishes along with a side dish or dessert.
Table service and drinks will be provided.

The business meeting will start at 7:00 pm followed by the program.

The program scheduled for the evening is GCF&G member Matthew J. Olson speaking on "Writing about Hunting".
Matthew published his first book in 2014, Shorts, and never stopped writing. He began writing short stories as a way to get attention to his novels. He found some success in these stories, so he published another collection in 2015, Dark Matter. 2016 saw the release of two novels, Alien Fear and Gun Smuggler's Tale. Tech Fear, the sequel to Alien Fear, came out in 2017.

Should be an interesting and different program.

October Highway Cleanup and Program

posted Oct 4, 2018, 3:34 PM by Sportsmans Acres

October Members Meeting begins at 6:00 pm at Sportsman's Acres

We do a trash pickup on about 2 miles of K-244 and also K-244 Spur over to our gate. KDOT has mowed recently so quite a bit of de-bris is visible and should be easy to pick up. Participation in this activity has been pretty light in recent years so it's difficult to cover the whole area. We have plenty of blue trash bags and orange vests so please come out and help.

After you return from the Highway Clean-up there will be a light supper of Ta-cos, followed by the monthly business meeting. Our program for the evening will be Trevor Schulte, KDWPT Game Warden for Geary County, talking about "Mistakes Hunters and Anglers Make in the Field" and also an overview of the up-land game bird forecast for this year.

Future Monthly Programs

November - Daric Schneidewind, Milford Fish Hatchery Man-ager, will tell us all about hatchery operations with special emphasis on walleye production.

December - Pat Silovsky, Milford Nature Center Director, will present a program on the Nature Center and the Eco-Meet pro-gram, which we support.

Is there interest in creating a 100 yard Rifle Range?

posted Jul 4, 2018, 8:43 AM by Sportsmans Acres

Is there interest in creating a 100-yard Rifle Range?

Members – I have been asked by many customers about a rifle range. As president, I would like to form a committee to study the feasibility of putting a 100-yard rifle range at Sportsmen’s Acres. This would require identifying the location on the property, develop a plan to submit to the Corp of Engineers (locally and Kansas City), and develop a sound cost estimate. The committee would have to also look into NRA range plans and grants. The range will require a lot of dirt work to build up the berms and must be met “no blue sky” requirements. If you are interested in such a range and want to be part of the committee please let me know. Thank you –Call Shirley Sat or Sun at the GCFG number.
